Mid-Autumn Delight!

with April Wilhelmina / @aprilwilhelmina

Happy to have you on the cover of Playboy! Can you give us a bit of a background on your career as a model and where it all started? I’m actually fairly new to the modeling world! I spent most of my time working in corporate settings seemingly avoiding leveraging my appearance for anything out of some sense of intellectual ego. Then my home was destroyed in a terrible windstorm about 3 years ago and I was needing additional funds to rebuild it. Looking back, I remembered when I was a kid growing up on the farm and seeing the women in Playboys and thinking they were so beautiful. True archetypes of femininity and desirability of the time who seemed to wholly embody their sexual power. I remember wanting to have that same sense of sexual agency and confidence. I had dreamed of one day being in the magazines as well. So, I decided why not give modeling a shot and hopefully make enough money through it to rebuild my home while I’m at it. Thankfully not only was I able to rebuild my home, but I’ve also checked off a huge bucket list item of mine to be on a Playboy cover for the month of April. I feel very grateful that my modeling career has taken off as much as it has in the short time I’ve been in the industry.

What are some of your best career highlights so far? My biggest career highlight is definitely posing for this issue and being on the cover! In the 2 years since I started modeling, I’ve accumulated 4 different covers and over 9 separate publications.

Social media is a very powerful tool, given your massive following, what are some of the challenges you face when it comes to marketing your brand and maintaining a solid following? The greatest challenge that I’ve been facing is shadow banning, so if anyone has any advice on how to rectify it let me know! It’s truly heartbreaking how social media has silenced the voices of so many people due to censorship overreach.

Can you give us a breakdown of a typical day in the life of a glamorous model on set? Usually, I’ll start the day with a quick training session to get everything pumped up. Then shower, moisturize, and prep for makeup/hair. I’ll also lay out all the wardrobe ideas I have for the shoot along with the props so that the photographer and I can discuss which ones we should shoot and the direction we want to go. Then we put on some music that gets me in the groove of things. I’m pretty free-flowing when I shoot and try to just have a good time with it. I try not to take it too seriously and keep a fairly playful attitude with everything.

What are some of the biggest misconceptions people have about what you do? That my life is super glamorous all the time. I’m a pretty laid back and spend most of my time hanging out with my dog Lady and kitty Blueberry.

Now we know there are some pretty perks that come with being a beautiful woman, what would say are your favorite ones? I’ve definitely gotten out of my fair share of speeding tickets ;). Another big one is that people tend to underestimate my intelligence and capacity for kindness based on my appearance. Which immediately already puts me in an advantageous position in the sense that I seem to be constantly exceeding people’s expectations of me.

Given that you’re a stunning woman who undoubtedly gets a lot of attention, what are some of the nicest things men have done to try and get your attention? Buy me all the beige-colored food. And I enjoy being treated like a princess/taken care of. I’m a hyper-independent woman so I love a very dominant man with who I can feel safe and secure with who provides and holds space for my femininity to flourish.

What makes you feel absolutely sexy? Listening to Lana Del Rey and a good pair of stockings with Louboutin heels.

3 things that you can’t go a day without? My fur babies, my journal, and playing the piano.

Anything exciting we should be on the lookout for coming through this year from you? Be on the lookout for some exciting business launches coming soon…
